Arrival & Registration
We can come into the Older Team from 8.40 am onwards and school starts at 8.45am. Afternoon registration is taken at 1pm.

Break Times
Breaks are not taken at fixed times, but to fit in with our activities. Sometimes we go for a walk, at other times we play.

Snacks & Water
In the Older Team, we bring in our own healthy snacks and water to keep our brains and bodies active. All members of the Team (including staff) are encouraged to eat and drink when they choose.

Older Team Planner
In the Older Team, we have much more responsibility to finish our own tasks and get the work marked by the teaching staff. Each child has a planner, which has the subjects across the top and the days of the week down the left-hand side.

We put a hot cross bun symbol () on our planner to indicate that work is ready to be marked.

At the end of each day, the planner is handed in to the teachers, who write on the planner to show whether work is completed or needs correcting. If someone is running behind on their planner, they may be asked to stay in at lunchtime to catch up. However, we are expected to take planner work (especially maths) home regularly so that we keep up to date.

Home Learning
Mathematics: in the Older Team, maths is made much easier if we know our multiplication tables and number bonds off by heart and at speed. We must learn and practise these at home as we have weekly mental maths/multiplication tables tests, usually on a Wednesday.

Spellings: on Wednesdays, we are given a spelling list which may be drawn from the National Curriculum spellings, our own work or from topic lists. We are expected to learn them over the weekend for testing on Monday morning (sometimes through a dictation). Incorrect spellings are re-tested during the week.

Reading: to support our reading at school, it would be helpful if we could read out loud to an adult at home most evenings, working on expression and understanding. It is really important to discuss the vocabulary, punctuation and sentence structure that the author has used as this helps to improve our writing and comprehension skills.

Project Work: every term the Team are given a major Home Learning project based on a relevant theme. Sometimes time is made available at school, and some resources may be provided. It is expected that most of the work will be completed at home, with optional help from family members. Members of staff are always available for advice or support and details are available.

PE
We need a PE kit in school at all times (not just on PE days). This includes a separate pair of suitable shoes for
outdoor games.

Parental Help
We always welcome parents who wish to come in to help – please contact the Team Leaders.

Monday Club
This is a club for Year 6 and Year 7 pupils. It meets at the school every other Monday evening at 5.00pm – 6.00pm as a social event. The club is supervised by two members of staff.
