Our Curriculum Design

Our curriculum is designed to ensure that there is a cross-curricular approach to learning. The intent is to capture the imagination of the children whilst giving them the opportunity to make links between facts and subject areas for a deeper learning and understanding.

Our cross curricular topics are carefully planned over a 2 year rolling programme. This rolling programme includes coverage of all the skills and objectives in the National Curriculum for each year group and each subject area. We ensure that there is no repetition, only extension of learning as the children progress on their learning journey through school. We then balance the teaching of our cross curricular topics with the teaching of key Maths and English skills and concepts across the week as well as providing opportunities for rehearsal and consolidation of these skills.

Our team teaching approach, often with mixed year groups, enables our children to learn from each other. They become confident to share and reflect on their learning and discuss their goals and next steps. Through this approach we promote independence, challenge and active high level thinking where children and adults feel safe to have a go and take a risk and value the process of learning and not just the finished product.
