On behalf of our whole school community, I would like to welcome you to The Colleton Primary School. My name is Michelle Law and I have the privilege of being this amazing school’s Headteacher.
Our children are at the heart of every decision and our positive and vibrant learning environment is designed to encourage every child to maximise their potential.
As the Headteacher, I am fortunate to work with a team of staff and governors who are extremely dedicated and truly want the best for all our children. We aim to provide a broad, all-round education of which pastoral care, excellent teaching and a strong emphasis on core values are essential components.
Visitors to our school comment positively on our values-based education, our facilities, the stimulating environment and inclusive, caring, family ethos. They describe our atmosphere as friendly, respectful and nurturing. We care deeply about the wellbeing and development of each individual and pride ourselves in the warmth of a community in which all our pupils feel valued.
I trust that this website is a useful source of information. It is designed to give you an insight into the dynamic life and values of our school, the work of our pupils and the quality education we strive to deliver.
We are extremely proud of our school – if you would like to know more about us, please come and visit – both the children and staff look forward to welcoming you.
At Colleton we work in teams across the school. This means the children and staff have the opportunity to foster and build relationships within and across the teams. The children also have the opportunity to work with and get to know lots of children and staff.
Foundation Stage is where the children first enter the school and their learning mainly takes place although we ensure that during the spring term, they work in mixed groups joining younger team for cross-curricular learning and PSHE activities.
Younger Team – Key Stage 1 children are in mixed registration groups of Years 1 & 2. Within these groups they are taught a range of curriculum subjects but may also be taught in year groups for phonics, writing and maths.
Middle Team – Lower Key Stage 2 children are in mixed registration groups of Years 3 and 4 in which they are taught a range of curriculum subjects. They may also be taught in different groups for some activities and in year groups for maths and aspects of their English learning. This mixed approach and flexible approach provides many benefits.
Older Team – Upper Key Stage 2 children are in mixed age registration groups of Years 5 or 6 in which they are taught a range of curriculum subjects. They may also be taught in different groups and in year groups when being taught spellings, grammar, writing and maths as well as modern foreign languages.
These dynamic and flexible groupings provide many benefits for children’s learning. The children are able to learn from different perspectives, teachers are able to cater more directly to the needs of each child and with our team-teaching and open plan environment, we are able to create a more stimulating and exciting place in which to learn. The manner in which children have the freedom to learn at their own pace and stage (with the planner system) and make decisions about their learning, enables them to become independent and confident learners. This is something that our receiving secondary schools often comment on.

Meet our Staff
Mornings – 8:50 am – 12:00 pm
Afternoons – 1:00 pm – 3:15 pm
Each Team is divided into registration groups. Each registration group contains a mixture of boys and girls of different ages from the team. This mixture enables friendships to be fostered as well as providing for a wide range of abilities and skills.
Although based with one registration teacher for pastoral care, the children may be taught by any of the team teachers, thus taking full advantage of the staff expertise and enabling a greater flexibility when providing effective working groups. One of the greatest strengths of our school is the team structure. We believe everybody has a part to play within this team – staff (both teaching and non-teaching), governors and parents.
We run an Early Drop Off Club from 8.00 – 8.40 am and an After School Club from 3.15 – 6.00 pm Monday to Friday.
