Central to the ethos of The Colleton Primary School is the individuality and independent spirit of each child.
The object of the school dress code is to retain, as far as possible, this individuality, whilst ensuring that clothes worn to school by the children reflect respect for the school and community and are suitable for a school setting.
Shirt, blouse, full length t-shirt, jumper, cardigan or sweatshirt – without motifs or slogans inappropriate for a school setting. When choosing your child’s clothing, please consider what might cause offence to others*.
Should you choose, sweatshirts and t-shirts featuring the school logo are available in a variety of colours through My Clothing
Red t-shirt and black shorts for indoors, with trainers for outdoors. In colder weather a tracksuit will be needed, which should be suitable for a muddy games field! Indoor PE is performed in bare feet, and for health and safety reasons, no jewellery is allowed. PE clothing should neither be too small or large as both extremes can be dangerous, particularly when using the apparatus.
For swimming in the Summer Term, girls should wear a one-piece swimming costume and the boys should wear trunks or swim shorts with an inner lining (not too long or baggy). Swim hats are recommended for children with long and/or thick hair which takes some time to dry. The children must be able to put them on themselves.
When competing in school sports events, our school teams wear a red top with The Colleton Primary School logo and black shorts.
Teachers and Governors are available to provide guidance to parents and children who have specific questions about the dress code.
Parents of children who are inappropriately dressed for school will be notified by a member of staff, and the child will be expected forthwith to comply with the school dress code.
It is the Governors’ responsibility, with the assistance of staff, to enforce the School Dress Code.
*From time to time the school will issue guidance notes to supplement the School Dress Code.
